Zayed Film Competition

 

General Conditions

Submissions are now being accepted for short films produced after January 1, 2018.

  • Film submissions should not be subject to online viewing, broadcast, or scheduled for limited or full broadcast on television, the internet or any other media platform before the results of the Sheikh Zayed Short Film Competition are announced.
  • Applicants must be 16 years and above.

Participation is open to all nationalities.


The Films

The films should be centred on the late founding father and leader of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (his qualities, vision, life, history and achievements.)

Films should be 3-10 minutes (including opening and closing credits), in the form of narrative or documentary.

Once the film has been selected and the invitation to participate at the competition has been accepted, it cannot be withdrawn from the competition.

If the film is selected for any awards, The competition will require the

following materials:

  • Uploaded copy of the film with English & Arabic subtitles, if the film’s original language is other than English.
  • Detailed documentation, including: a synopsis of the film, a biography and complete filmography of the director, a selection of stills from the film, a recent photograph of the director, and a full list of artistic and technical credits, dialogue or spotting list in English, Film clips / trailer.

The Competition reserves the rights to use all materials cited for promotional purposes and the Competition Guide.

The winning films must have the logo of the competition.


Submission

Deadline for submissions is August 31, 2018. Online applications to be submitted in Arabic or English and with the link of your film.

Aspect ratio: 16:9

Resolution: HD 1080

All films must be submitted in high definition – HD. Baynounah TV reserves the right to reject any unsuitable copies, in which case the participant must submit a better copy of the film. Baynounah TV reserves the right to remove any film from the competition, without any obligation, if the requested material is not submitted


Jury bio

Intishal Al Tamimi- Head of the Jury

Intishal Al Timimi, is a well known figure in the international film festival circuit. His entire career has been dedicated to passionately making known around the world, cinematic voices from the Arab world and enabling them to evolve through dialogue with their counterparts whether inside or outside the Arab world.

He has pursued his passion through several important positions and associations in the last 30 years. Some of these include: Arab Film Festival, Rotterdam, Artistic Director (2001-2009); Rotterdam International Film Festival, Program Advisor (2004-2011); Osian’s Cinefan, Festival of Asian, Arab and Indian Cinema, Programmer (2004-2009). He was in the core group of Abu Dhabi Film Festival and served there as, Director of Arab Programming and Director of Sanad Film Fund. Currently he is the director of El Gouna Film Festival/Egypt.

Zeina Sufan – Producer

As the Head of Production & Operations at BMG Media, Zeina Sufan brings with her 25 years of experience as a TV Director and Executive Producer.

Prior to taking on this post, she worked for several highly recognized and acclaimed channels in the Arab world, including LBCI, MBC, Dubai, and Qatar TV. Zeina is also a highly proficient and competent instructor in her field. Prior to moving to the GCC in 2008, she taught TV Production and Direction courses at the Lebanese American University. Sufan holds a Bachelor degree in Communication Arts/ Radio TV Film from the Lebanese American University.

Abdullah Hassan Ahmed – Director

Abdulla Hasan Ahmed is an award winning director, producer and one of the main founders of the UAE’s film industry.

His list of awards and participations includes international festivals such Berlin, Locarno, Tokyo, Abu Dhabi Film Festivals and Dubai International Film Festival.

Known for his social activism, his script ‘Birth’ has won the award of the UAE ministry of interior as the Best Security and Social Script in 2015 and with cooperation with Dubai International Film Festival, ‘Birth’ has won IWC award as the Best Gulf script in 2016.

In 2018 his documentary series ‘Al-Mawared’ has won AL OWAIS AWARD FOR CREATIVITY as the Best Local Social television program; produced by Baynounah TV.

Directing over 30 films, Abdullah is also the CEO Faradees Art Production Company that provides all kind of services to the cinema industry.

Mohammed Baqer Al -Abdulmohsin – Director

Mohammed Baqer Al-Abdulmohsin is an award winning filmmaker who began filmmaking with a strong expressive background in photography. This knowledge helped him enhance his cinematography skills, in addition to his emotional intelligence. His filmmaking skills were further enriched by some experiences he had earned designing film posters and perfecting event management.

Baqer’s experiences involved directing the Unveil Saudi project for the Saudi Telecom Company (STC). He also made several short films for many reputable organizations, including Alsafi Danone, Aramco, Baynounah TV, Wojhah photography exhibition, and JWT Riyadh, From another angle, he made some short personal travel documentaries including: “Fish-Oman” and “System of life-Myammar”.

Damien Steck – Director / Cinematographer

Damien Steck is an award-winning French director living in Los Angeles. Damien has a particular sensitivity, a personal touch. His films are marked by certain poetry. Passionate by motion graphics and design, he developed a refined aesthetic, through his choices of cinematography and use of graphics in postproduction.

Damien has evolved in his own unique way of treating images in film.

“The story behind a film is all about life experience and meeting yourself in the making process. It’s the best way to create things that are bigger than you are – a way to evolve, through the contact of the others.” Damien.

All films must be submitted via a password protected streaming link. Our preference is Vimeo links; however, we can accept links to other streaming sites including your own site, an unlisted private YouTube, etc. as long as the link is not public. If you have any extenuating circumstances that prohibit you from making a streaming link of your film please contact us on communications@baynounah.ae

Disputes, if any, will be subject exclusively to the jurisdiction of the Courts in UAE.

In line with the announcement of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, that 2018 is the ‘Year of Zayed’ Baynounah TV is launching Zayed Film Competition, to honor the founding father of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and his legacy.

The main objective of the competition is to document Sheikh Zayed’s journey of establishing and building the country, and to highlight his values and beliefs, ​​alongside the greatest domestic and international achievements he attained for the prosperity of the United Arab Emirates.
